Le groupe américain de rock chrétien Skillet sera de retour en Belgique le 18 avril au Palais 12 CLUB+, à Bruxelles, dans le cadre de sa tournée « Day of Destiny ». Toutes les rébellions ne naissent pas de l’obscurité. Skillet, l’un des groupes de rock les plus vendeurs du 21e siècle, poursuit sa révolution contre les conventions, les doutes, les attentes et les règles. Son intention est claire : briller dans la lumière. Les membres du Pandora Billionaires Club, nommés à deux reprises aux GRAMMY® Awards et formant le quatuor aux multiples albums de platine de Kenosha (Wisconsin) – John Cooper [frontman/basse], Korey Cooper [guitare/clavier], Jen Ledger [batterie/voix] et Seth Morrison [guitare principale] – ne compromettent jamais leur intégrité. Au contraire, ils ont tracé leur propre voie vers des sommets inédits avec un son pressant, une énergie indéniable et un esprit inébranlable.
Sur leur onzième album complet, Dominion [Atlantic Records], Skillet encourage un autre type de révolte au moment où le monde en aurait bien besoin… « C’est ce que j’appelle une rébellion positive », s’exclame John. « C’est une rébellion contre les éléments internes que sont la peur et l’anxiété. Une rébellion contre les forces extérieures qui veulent que vous soyez quelque chose que vous ne voulez pas être. C’est une célébration de la liberté que nous avons dans nos vies. C’est résolument anti-establishment. C’est un appel au rassemblement pour défendre ce en quoi vous croyez et ne pas être réduit au silence. Cette approche peut être impopulaire dans certains endroits, mais il n’y a rien de plus rock ‘n’ roll que cela », sourit-il.
Skillet a incarné l’évolution du rock ‘n’ roll depuis le premier jour. Le groupe a vendu 12 millions d’albums dans le monde à ce jour et a obtenu plus d’une dizaine de certifications RIAA en reconnaissance de son statut d’or, de platine ou de multiplatine. Jalon décisif dans sa carrière, l’album Awake a notamment été trois fois disque de platine et a reçu un Billboard Music Award. De plus, il contenait le double titre de patine « Awake & Alive », le triple titre de platine « Hero » et le quadruple titre de platine « Monster ». Ce dernier se distingue comme « l’une des chansons rock les plus streamées de l’histoire », avec plus de 1,2 MILLIARD de streams audio mondiaux. Sorti en 2019, l’album Victorious a consacré la quatrième entrée consécutive dans le Top 20 du Billboard Top 200. L’album a terminé l’année dans le classement des « 50 meilleurs albums rock de 2019 » de LoudWire et la plage « Legendary » s’est taillé un succès retentissant, figurant dans le Top 10 des radios rock et totalisant plus de 100 millions de streams. La musique du groupe résonne également dans toute la culture, puisqu’il a décroché des synchros de WWE, Marvel, ESPN, MLB, NHL et NFL. Véritable phénomène en tournée, le groupe joue régulièrement à guichets fermés dans le monde entier. Il s’est produit dans plus de 26 pays et sur 6 continents, et a été acclamé par Billboard, USA Today, The New York Times, et bien d’autres. Alors que la pandémie mondiale gelait l’année 2020, Skillet a redoublé de créativité. Au cours de cette année, les musiciens se sont connectés à ZOOM et ont enregistré ce qui allait devenir Dominion avec le producteur Kevin Churko [Papa Roach, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch] et le co-auteur Kane Churko au cours de l’année. Les Churko ont inspiré le groupe à élargir sa palette sonore une fois de plus.

Not every rebellion gestates in darkness. As the Global Pandemic brought 2020 to a halt, Skillet creatively pushed forward. The musicians logged on to ZOOM and recorded what would become Dominion with producer Kevin Churko [Papa Roach, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch] and co-writer Kane Churko over the course of the year. The Churkos inspired the band to stretch their sonic palette once again.

Niet elke vorm van rebellie zit geworteld in duisternis. Als een van de best verkopende rockbands van de 21e eeuw blijft Skillet zich afzetten tegen conventies, twijfels, verwachtingen en regels om zo tot verlichting te komen.
